| St. Vincent & the Grenadines
is a state consisting of 32 islands called "The Gem of the Antilles" and for good
reason. Here you have sheer beauty, quite unlike any other in the Caribbean. We have a
variety of vegetation, scenery, beaches and people. In
1996, the British magazine, Caribbean World, voted us "Island Destination of the Year".
In 1995, they voted us, "Yachting Destination of the Year". The Caribs, one
of our ancient indigenous peoples called the island, "Hairoun", meaning "Land of
the Blessed".
That is how most Vincentians feel about our country, wherever they
happen to live. The Garifunas, another ancient indigenous people called it
"Youromei" that is, "The Beauty of the Rainbows in the Valleys".
